Do not assume that any of your players knows how to slide correctly!
I suggest that you do not use the sliding pit for teaching sliding. It is too soft. Use a level area in the outfield grass.
For first time sliders, remove your shoes or cleats for this.

I like to have my players be agressive. I tell them that they should plan on taking the extra base unless the coach tells them to STOP! This takes decision making off of their shoulders and places it directly on the base coach’s shoulders… Were it should be.
Always be decisive and run HARD!
